What Is Microneedling?

You always hear your girlfriends talking about it, and every time you pop into Skin Solutions Dermatology in Nashville it’s likely you’ve heard it being mentioned. For all its popularity, I know many don’t quite understand what it is or how exactly it might help you - the “needling” part of the word does tend to scare off some! Today, we’ll delve into what exactly this treatment does, how you can benefit from it and what to expect.

Who it’s for

Microneedling came about as a way to help target some of the tougher dermatological conditions like acne scars, melasma, skin rejuvenation, surgical scars, enlarged pores, wrinkles and skin tightening. If your skin is home to any of these conditions, microneedling may be the treatment for you!

Microneedling treatments have increased greatly over the last several years, suggesting that it is ideal for those who want to see significant clinical results, with little to no down time. It’s one of the things we do best in Nashville!

How it works

Microneedling is essentially the insertion of very fine, short needles into the skin to rejuvenate it. But don’t freak out! It’s less like many needle wounds, and more like tiny pin-pricks that don’t go deep. Microneedling works to promote wound healing and stimulate collagen production through lightly injuring the skin.

One of the most attractive features of microneedling is that it can be used in all skin types! Compared to using lasers, microneedling can be comfortably performed on all skin types with only minimal down time.

What happens next

Speaking of down time - here’s what to expect once you complete your microneedling treatment at Skin Solutions Dermatology. Your skin may take on a red or pink hue on the day after your treatment and look slightly swollen, and by the third day, swelling subsides and your skin color will be slightly pink or back to normal. Your Nashville practitioner will provided a topical and skin care regimen to follow after the treatment.

Microneedling has been proven to be a safe and minimally invasive treatment for a myriad of conditions. With little downtime and amazing results, it is a fantastic alternative to more invasive treatments like laser skin resurfacing or deep chemical peeling. Interested in giving it a try?
