How to Banish Those Warts for Good, From a Nashville Dermatologist

Those pesky warts! Have you ever suffered from the annoyance of having warts before? I can tell you first hand that in Nashville it is truly a difficult experience for everyone involved: patient, parent and dermatologists alike. Want to know what’s even worse? Seeing warts return, time and time again.

We have many of our patients in Nashville ask about things like carbon dioxide lasers, but from what we’ve seen, the results have simply not been as good as applying liquid nitrogen and unfortunately, both treatments are very painful. So how can we get rid of these warts once and for all, without having to go through multiple painful treatments?

In a new study published in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, it was shown that when warts are treated with a pulse dye laser, they have a higher likelihood to stay gone. In my opinion, I would recommend clearing the wart with liquid nitrogen or surgery first, and then follow up with a pulse dye treatment for our patients in Tennessee. The best part? You do it all at our Franklin dermatology practice!

This wasn’t the only thing the study uncovered: surprisingly, smoking was identified as a risk factor for recurrence of warts, suggesting that smokers do have a lower immune response than non-smokers. If you are a smoker who keeps getting warts - this may very well be the reason why.

Don’t have the ability to come into our Franklin practice to treat your wart? You may be able to deal with it from the comfort of your house! A popular home remedy that we recommend to all our patients is as follows: apply apple cider vinegar to the wart with a cotton ball, followed by good old-fashioned duct tape. Leave both overnight.
